Vermettya was born in Jacksonville, Florida. While attending high school, she entered Hilltop Music School. There she was taught opera and classical music. She began her singing career with the Jacksonville Choral Ensemble. She then joined Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church Choir. There she met the Great Clara Ward, leader of the World Famous Clara Ward Singers. They invited Vermettya to join the Ward Singers after permission was given from her mother. Clara Ward wanted her as the soprano soloist, so she was taught gospel music.

After two world tours, a profusion of recordings and an appearance in the motion picture "It's Your Thing," Vermettya left the Clara Ward Singers to pursue her career in secular music.

As an Ikette, she recorded "RIVER DEEP - MOUNTAIN HIGH" with Ike and Tina Turner. Vermettya was also one of Ray Charles' Raelets. Her soulful back-up vocals added much to the classic recordings of "I DON'T NEED NO DOCTOR," "LET'S GO GET STONED" and others.

A high point in Vermettya's performing career was her stint as the lead singer of the femme group, The Sisters Love. Her gutsy, gritty, multi-range vocals could be heard on their A&M and Motown singles. Vermettya and Sisters Love appeared in the motion picture "THE MACK" as well as touring Europe, opening for The Jackson Five.

Not only a singer, but an actress, Vermettya has appeared in such productions as John Henry's "BIG MAN" With Robert Guillaume and Joe Williams, "SISTUH," "THE GLITTER PALACE" and the revue "BLACK FOLK IN SONG". In the Latter production, the Los Angeles Times stated "Vermettya's voice has an on-the-edge quality that can achieve remarkable effects." Vermettya has appeared in eight motion pictures, including "WHICH WAY IS UP?," "A TIME TO SING," "SPREE" and "BLUE COLLAR." In the latter, she had a small but memorable acting role in this often shown Richard Pryor film.

Joining Motorcity Records in the late 1980's, Vermettya recorded "SATURDAY NIGHT, SUNDAY MORNING," "NO MORE BROKEN HEARTS," "SOMETHING ABOUT YOU," "RELIGHT MY FIRE" (a duet with Chuck Jackson) and others.

Vermettya also took time out from her solo career to make a new recording with The Clara Ward Singers. The results can be heard on THE LEGENDARY CLARA WARD SINGERS CD entitled LEGACY-VOL. 1. This recording contains Vermettya's definitive recording of one of her signature songs "YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE."

In May 2009, Vermettya performed in James Pickens' revue "GOSPEL! GOSPEL! GOSPEL!" alongside Vickie Winans and Loretta Devine at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.

Vermettya's goal is "to perform and entertain and make a difference in the world, singing songs that inspire." Vermettya has just finished recording a new CD, which will be released by the end of Summer 2009.
